Mariano Karner is a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina. His diverse international background began at the widely recognized Universidad de San Andres, Argentina where he earned his Bachelors of Business Administration while also studying abroad at the University of Bath, England. In 1999, Mariano began his career in finance holding investment-banking positions in the Buenos Aires offices of both Lehman Brothers and Banco Santander. His passion for travel brought him to Barcelona Spain, where he fell in love with the cultural atmosphere. During that trip he visited the campus of ESADE Business School, and it was there that he decided he wanted to broaden his experience ultimately applying to their Master’s program. In 2002, he was accepted into the prestigious school where he earned his Master’s in Finance and Economics. During his time in Barcelona, Mariano developed a friendship with a fellow student whose father was an accomplished executive in the beverage industry. Intrigued by Mariano’s acumen for finance and business, he offered Mariano a position at his then start up venture, Agua de Bronchales, SA. While continuing to earn his Master’s, Mariano supported all functions of the company’s growth, handling the financial modeling for private placements as well as the construction and finance of their primary manufacturing plant and 10 distribution facilities through out Spain.
In 2004, Mariano was offered an opportunity to work in the United States as the CFO of Work Leader Corp., a real estate development company based in Miami, FL. Mariano was excited by the challenge presented by the position, as well as the opportunity to make Miami his home. As CFO, Mariano played a key role in the origination and structuring of over $250 million in debt and equity financing for the company’s multiple commercial and residential projects. In 2007, as the landscape for development changed in South Florida and much of the world, Mariano decided to venture off on his own and serve as a consultant for various high profile development groups assisting in loan workouts and debt restructuring as well as arranging bulk condo sales to investors. These various projects and relationships parlayed into a fruitful brokerage career where Mariano eventually began brokering high profile commercial properties such as the Macy’s in downtown Miami and other NNN leased properties like Starbuck’s and Walgreens to his network of private investors and investment groups. Along side his advisory and brokerage business Mariano began acquiring and repositioning shopping centers with groups of investors.
In his pursuit of new opportunities for himself and his investors, Mariano and Javier crossed paths in 2010. Having known each other since their days in Buenos Aires, they decided to join forces bringing together their diverse skills and expertise as well as their vast individual resources. Mariano became a partner in Prive Land Banking and serves as the COO. He brings over a decade of vital experience in finance, development, capital structuring, and overall know how to all aspects of Prive’s operations. Mariano’s pragmatic thinking and deep understanding of the development process has been a substantial part of Prive’s success.
